Digital Story Critique wk 12

You don’t agree with my choice but do you agree with my right to choose?

This digital story critique examines the concept and value of Freedom. Alignment with core values facilitates dreams to realities. Figuring out what you really believe, what you really value creates your life’s roadmap. Reading the map is not always easy because we are busy and distracted. Paying attention to our gut, heart, and what we believe has to be intentional or we will miss it. None of this is possible if we haven’t taking the time to sort out our values…what we really value….hint, check how you are living, and choosing, and once you know what your personal values are have the courage and integrity to choose in alignment.

I critiqued this digital story on story, flow, organization and pacing, and originality, voice, and creativity.

Story

This 4:32 YouTube video tells one person’s story of how they use one of their values to light their path. Rand Paul talks about his core value of personal freedom. More importantly he demonstrates how he uses this core value to guide his belief system and decision- making. One thing that makes this story compelling to me is the struggle it takes to stick with your core value system when it is hard or you may feel judged, or in conflict with other parts of self. In this digital story John Strossel’s directly challenges Mr. Paul’s thinking and stance related to personal freedom. These challenges and Mr. Paul’s answers made me curious and held my attention throughout this digital story. Like many good stories there is conflict and resolution.

Flow, Organization, Pacing

This story starts with a challenge. Strossel challenges Paul’s beliefs. Starting with a conflict grabbed my attention. The choice to organize the story with conflict first was a good one in this case. The story proceeds with provocative question after provocative question facilitating a fast pace and great flow.

Originality

The format of this story facilitated through an interview is not original in itself. Rand Paul’s stance concerning freedom “when you defend freedom and freedom of choice you can’t be picking and choosing how people use those freedoms….,” while probably not and original stance sure was validating.
